SMC rescues abandoned pets in Bulacan airport

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is rescuing and relocating domestic animals left in Barangay Taliptip in Bulakan, Bulacan, the future site of its P740 billion Manila International Airport project, after giving residents new homes.

SMC said they have partnered with the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) to rescue some 70 abandoned or stray animals left at the site.

Animal Kingdom is a non-profit, non-government organization devoted to improving the welfare and living conditions of animals and eliminating the trade in dog meat for human consumption.

Around 50 animals have been rescued, consisting of dogs and cats. At least 20 more are scheduled to be rescued in the next few days from different sitios.
Rescued animals will be brought to Animal Kingdom’s shelter in Capas, Tarlac, where they will give proper shelter and care for them.

“While we’ve made sure that the former communities here have been relocated to newer, better homes in safer areas, we also can’t bear the plight of the animals that have been left behind,” said SMC President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon Ang.

“We’re very grateful to Animal Kingdom for all their efforts. With them, we’re assured that the dogs are rescued properly, treated humanely, and can be nursed back to full health,” Ang added.
