President Duterte hints at running for VP next year

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier Saturday drumbeat his intentions on running for vice president in the May 2022 elections next year.

MANILA, Philippines — This move will have him campaign against his own daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio who very recently filed her candidacy for vice president.

As if paving the way for this, senators Christopher Go and Ronald dela Rosa both withdrew their certificates of candidacy (COCs). Go for vice president and dela Rosa for his pursuit of the presidency.

Go on Saturday filed for presidency under the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS) party.

“Ako na ang assistant niya ngayon,” Duterte told reporters, pointing to Bong Go, hinting of his run as vice president.

(I will be his assistant now.)

He further confirmed this by disproving inquiries on his intentions to run for senator.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar, who was there during the COC withdrawal, added that Duterte will be filing his candidacy for vice president on Monday.

“Sa Monday, babalik si presidente dito sa Comelec, para mag-file ng kanyang candidacy for vice president. So abangan natin ang susunod na kabanata,” Andanar told reporters on Saturday.
