The Philippine Postal Corporation just released new sets of stamps celebrating Filipino heroes of this generation.
Starting off with golden girl weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, the country’s first gold since it has joined the Olympics in 1924, the stamps feature golden moments that led to victory.
MANILA — The 2020 Olympics in Tokyo in July 2021 made Ms Diaz a national sensation when she captured the Olympic gold.
The historic victory brought honor and inspiraation to the Filipino people says postmaster general Norman Fulgencio.
“The images in stamps offer a fresh and engaging story of Philippine history, culture, and identity.
“We never fail to capture the interpretation of Filipino experience and historic moments in portraying famous individuals, events, and geography,” he says
Ms Diaz’s fellow medalists–boxers Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio (silver) and Eumir Marcial (bronze) have their set of stamps with their images on.
“The glory they have given to our nation and to the Filipino people is priceless,” says Mr Fulgencio.
Meanwhile, the postal service has also launched ‘Keep the Faith, Be a Hero Covid-19 Vaccinated’ postage stamps intended to encourage an promote vaccination.
The second in a series of Covid-19 Heroes, it follows the “Frontline Heroes” released last year, where people from from all walks of life are featured and recognized as heroes in the fight against Covid-19. (RA/The MiNT)
