Broadcaster and senatorial aspirant Raffy Tulfo is facing a petition to cancel his certificate of candidacy (COC) for running as senator.
MANILA, Philippines — Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson James Jimenez said Thursday, 18 that a certain Julieta Pearson, Tulfo’s alleged wife, has petitioned for the Comelec to cancel Tulfo’s COC.
In her petition, Pearson noted that Tulfo’s details in his COC are falsified, specifically details about his marriage where Tulfo stated that he is currently married to ACT-CIS Party-list Representative Jocelyn Tulfo, despite Pearson’s claims that her own marriage to Tulfo “was never dissolved”.
Pearson said she married the broadcaster on 25 October 1982 in Capaz, Tarlac.
“The misrepresentation in his certificate of candidacy was done by him fully aware that he is not legally married to his declared wife,” the petition pointed out.
Back in 2019, Tulfo himself mentioned on his TV/radio show that he had a daughter with Pearson.
Pearson has also claimed that she filed a criminal case of bigamy against Tulfo in the Office of the Prosecuter of Quezon City. The case is still under review.
The bigamy case filed against him was also not detailed in his COC, which is important information that should not be withheld from voters, stated Pearson.
Tulfo or anyone from his team has not yet spoken on the matter.
Tulfo, known for his radio show’s theme of accessible and swift justice, leads the Social Weather Stations’ survey for the preferred senatorial candidates for the 2022 national elections. (RF/The MiNT)
