Mourning brothers killed by train as other brother

Two brothers were killed by a passing CATS Lynx train on the same spot their brother died a week before. They were reportedly holding a memorial for their brother on his location of death when the incident happened.

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA — The fatal incident happened at around 5 in morning of 03 August 2021, when Brothers Pablo Us (29) and Jose Us (20) were walking on the southbound tracks near South Boulevard and Hebron Street in Charlotte. Paramedics declared Pablo and Jose dead on the scene, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

According to the police, Pablo and Jose had been conducting a memorial for their brother before they were hit. Alcohol impairment is a suspected factor that led to their deaths, police added.

The pair’s brother, Baltazar Us (27), was killed on the same spot a week prior the event as he was driving across the tracks with a passenger, who, in turn, was seriously injured. He was struck by a LYNX Blue Line Train and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police also suspecteed that impairment was involved in this particular incident.

“It’s a very tragic incident,” police sergeant Adam Jones said during a news conference. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families. I can’t imagine losing your children, your siblings within a week to such tragic circumstances.”

Jones also warned the citizens of Charlotte, “I’d like to stress to our citizens: Please, if you have been drinking, use a ride-share, have a designated driver, or stay where you are.”

Local authorities have noted that the safety mechanisms for the Charlotte Area Transit System Line were working properly when the accident happened, which was also confirmed by the investigators who looked into the incident. Such safety mechanisms include flashing lights and crossing arms, which serve as warnings when a train is about to pass. (RF/The MiNT)
