Japan manga contest open to Filipinos, closes 08 July

    The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs opens submission for the 115th Japan International Manga Awards. The Japanese Embassy in Manila invites Filipino manga artists to join and submit their entries.
    Deadline for submission is on 08 July.

    MANILA – The Japan International Manga Award expands its international exchange and mutual understanding through the manga culture. It was founded in 2007. The best manga work will win the Gold Award; three excellent works will get the Silver Award, and eleven other works, the Bronze Award.

    A trip to Japan for the awarding ceremony for Gold and Silver Awards is covered in 2022.

    Requirements

    Eligible manga works should be 16 pages. Individuals who have both published and unpublished works may apply, including winners of past Japan International Manga Awards.

    Entries must be produced within the past three years (2018 to 2021) from the date of application. An artist can enter only one entry. In case of multiple entries, only one entry will be accepted.

    Entries and the filled-up application form can be submitted in three ways:

    (1) Hard copies (two copies) must be sent via a courier addressed to:
    15th Japan International Manga Awards
    Japan Information and Culture Center
    Embassy of Japan in the Philippines
    2627 Roxas Blvd., Pasay City

    (2) In PDF format via emailed to: jicc-mnl@ma.mofa.go.jp with the subject: 15th Japan International Manga Awards. The Embassy reminds that its email attachment limit is only at 10MB and that the applicant must follow up with them if they fail to receive an acknowledgment email for the entry.

    (3) In both hard copy (1 copy) and PDF format

    Hard copies (two copies) must be sent via a courier addressed to:

    The deadline for submission will be on July 8, 2021.

    The winners will have the opportunity to communicate and exchange ideas with Japanese mangakas, tour publishing companies and local sites.

    Filipino artists are among the sought-after breed in comic arts and animation. Disney and Pixar, among the top animation studios, and others, have a number of Filipino artists in their credit. (LO/The MiNT)
