Govt identifies priority areas in the face of vaccine delay

MANILA — The India situation has affected most vaccination rollout of governments around the globe, especially poor-to-middle-income economies, which rely on aid via the COVAX Facility. Adjusting to the circumstances, the Government has identified areas to be prioritized as delays in vaccine shipment are inevitable.

The Government brought to fore areas with “social and economic importance.”

    Metro Manila
    Central Luzon
    Baguio City
    Cordillera Administrative Region
    Cagayan Valley

    Metro Cebu City
    Bacolod City
    Iloilo City
    Central Visayas
    Western Visayas
    Eastern Visayas

    Davao City
    Cagayan de Oro City
    Zamboanga City
    General Santos City
    Iligan City
    Davao region
    Zamboanga Peninsula
    Northern Mindanao

Achieving herd immunity with the prioritized areas will require the Government to target 50 million to 60 million Filipinos, 10 million less the original target of 70 million by end of 2021.

Since the vaccine rollout, about 1.6 million Filipinos have received their first dose while a little less than 300,000 have completed their vaccination.

The country is still in the middle of beating the surge in new cases of infections as other new and more transmissible variants are being detected elsewhere in around the globe. It has breached the one million mark last week and fatalities recorded have gone above 15,000. (LO/The MiNT)
